“Teaching music is not my main purpose. I want to make good citizens. If children hear fine music from the day of their birth and learn to play it, they develop sensitivity, discipline and endurance. They get a beautiful heart.” –Shinichi Suzuki

I cannot emphasise the importance of listening to the recordings enough for every music student. In my experience, students who listen daily learn their pieces much more easily, and can spend more time on developing dynamics and musicality (among other skills) rather than having to focus solely on learning the notes. It is the only shortcut to learn faster!
As we get back into our routines, please make sure you have the recordings handy and available. I find that, for most families, the easier and most effective way is to upload your current Suzuki book recordings to your phone.
A question I often get: Can I just listen to your videos on Youtube or a free version on Spotify?
And the answer is: No.
A lot of thought and intention were put from teachers around the globe into making the Suzuki recordings. Listening to another recording found on Youtube or Spotify IS NOT THE SAME. Please respect the Suzuki Method trademark by purchasing the official recording.
My Youtube videos were made for practicing purposes, not for listening as their quality is not the best. Please stick to the official recordings.
Need help to see the fingering and bowing of a new piece? Use the Youtube videos.

Listening should occur as part of the child’s natural environment. It can be played softly in the background, so you can still have a conversation, during the day at play times, meal times, bedtime, and in the car. The student does not have to “sit still and listen”; they will absorb the pieces on the recording by daily listening.
Remember, it is the parent’s responsibility to turn on the recording!
I hope this helps you to make the most of your cello journey with your child.
Happy (daily) listening!
